학교소개
레스터 대학교(University of Leicester)는 잉글랜드 레스터에 위치한 연구중심 공립 대학으로, 메인 캠퍼스는 시내 중심에서 남쪽으로 빅토리아 공원과 가까이 위치해 있다. 레스터 대학교는 1921년 '레스터셔·러틀런드칼리지(Leicestershire and Rutland College)'로 설립되어 9명의 학생으로 개교하였으며, 1957년 왕실의 설립인가를 받으면서 자체적으로 학위를 수여할 권한을 갖는 종합대학교로 승격되었다.
유전자 지문 발명 및 리차드 3세의 유해를 발견한 것으로 매우 유명한 대학이다. 레스터 대학은 연구를 선도하는 공립 종합대학교로 영국의 일간지 <가디언>, <선데이타임스> 등이 발표한 국내 대학 순위에서 지속적으로 상위 20개 대학에 포함되었다. 영어학, 역사학, 사회학, 법학, 경영학 등 다양한 분야의 연구가 우수하다는 평가를 받고 있으며, 특히 자연과학 및 공학 분야의 명성이 높다.
